Thank you Sonya, comments like these keep me going down that 'tough old' road. All the best...
I really enjoyed your website. I was on a Musical Journey. How wonderful you take time out to appreciate so many people who have come into your life and made an impact somehow, inspired your albums. You're a true talent, following your heart your entire life, day in, day out ... bringing joy to others. Many people would give up ... it's one of the toughest roads, acts to follow ... God Bless you and your family and friends.
All the very best,
Sonya Rose
I've reset this guestbook so that all comments come to me via e-mail first. This is to try and filter out all the spam and rubbish that these morons try to send. I'm sure you don't want to read it either! So don't worry if after you've clicked 'submit your comment' it doesn't appear immediately- I will add it as soon as possible.
Thanks very much Brenda for those inspiring comments! I'm finding that lots of kids seem to like 'Tipperary'... don't know what it is, but great that they do!
Love your music, bought your CD after first hearing you at the Gas House Tavern.Came with Brian, the mechanic,
Just to let you know my 8 year old grandsons love your songs too, they are often heard singing "Crossing The River" and "The
Tipperary Song"
When I told them I had been to see you again, one asked," Is he still blind?"
Hi Grant, great to meet an ol' Durban boy at the airport doing what we do best... having a pint. My trip was good too, slight delay in Dubai. The chaos, of course, came when I got back to Leeds... but that's moving house for you. Keep in touch and nice meeting you.

Wow great site! Some really helpful information there.
I’m sorry for little off-topic, but I want to ask you about design of this site.
Did you make this template yourself or got from any templates website?
Looks pretty cool for me. Wonderful well this reading.

One song that's not had a mention on here so far is 'Big Hearted Guy'. Written by me for comedian and country singer Aiden J Daniels (please see the
singers page) it's all about the good things in being ... well 'big'! Aiden (a big guy himself) is getting great milage out of it, and it's the
perfect song to introduce his comedy act. Not being a light-weight myself, I'm thinking about chucking it into my live act as well!
But the song's not just about being big in size but also being big in character. Someone really close to me is just going through a terrible break-
up. But the way he's handling himself and dealing with it show an honesty, dignity and wisdom which make him a true 'Big Hearted Guy'. Hang in there
mate... things will improve in time!
'I'm big and tough and know how to crush little minds
'Cause i'm big enough, to be a big hearted guy'
Here's the full song:
BIG-HEARTED GUY
© Rob Russell Davies 2003
Well I'm not a little guy
I'll never be an S or M in size
So fit me in a mighty triple L
'Cause everyone can see I'm living well
You'll find I don't have super-model grace
Or plastic vanity carved on my face
And largely what you see is what you get
'Cause I like it big
CHORUS
Well I'm big in the way I look
I'm big on my style
I'm big on my friends out there
I'm big on their smiles
I'm big and tough and know how to crush little minds
'Cause I'm big enough...
To be a big-hearted guy
To be a big-hearted guy...
Rolling like a tank in overdrive
I'm shunting through the world as large as life
I'm driven by a passion not a thrill
I'd rather climb a mountain than a hill
So fill my plate 'cause I think big is best
I'll always ask for more and not for less
Come ride with me along the widest roads
Let's think real big
CHORUS (Repeated)
MIDDLE
So make me big brother on every T V
And a Big Apple in any city
Like a big drum, big gun and big on the scene
You know that bigger is bolder and better
(Bigger is bolder and better)
Bigger is bolder and better
(Big, big, big, big)
REPEAT CHORUS
I'm not huge on Blogs and I don't think I'd ever be able to add new entries every day! After all, if I did that when would I get time to write the
songs. But I thought it might be an idea just to jot down a few thoughts / ideas / moans and even song words now and again. Hence this page is now
Rob's Blog and Guestbook!!!
So please feel free to add your comments... as always I'd love to hear from you. What I don't want to hear from is spammers! The odd ones do seem to
creep through and I try to remove them as quickly as possible. My apologies in advance if any unwanted rubbish does appear here!
Here's a topic of debate! Please add your comments
As the internet grows, there seem to be absolutely loads of company's out there who're very willing to help us aspiring songwriters! They offer to do
all sorts of things like:
promote your music to publishers / agents / radio stations etc...
Give you a page on their website to promote your material...
They claim to know the movers and shakers in the business, and know how to open the doors for you.
But there's a catch. The songwriter always has to pay! And... I (we) have to pay up-front. So to send a song submission to the ABC Pop concert...
give us £25 for the privilege!
To get on one of these 'agents/promoters' books... give us a few hundred or maybe even a few thousand $$$'s.
Now, am I being naive here - or have we got this the wrong way around! If my songs are good enough, shouldn't people be pushing them for me. Of
course, the publisher / agent or whoever would be on a commission, and would get their cut once the song cracks it. But why should I pay upfront on a
maybe!!!
I don't include songwriting competitions in this. I don't mind paying to enter them... after all, judges have to be paid and the organisation costs
(although having said that - I bet some are making a fantastic profit on the deal!)
What do you think? Has anyone had any success with these pay-upfront schemes - or have you found that you're swimming in shark infested waters?
Please add your comment. (Oh... and I'll check my emails for any more offers in the meantime!)
Great to hear from you again Jon. Yes I remember your song 'Sunset' from 2003, although can't quite remember how it goes! Hope you're having lots of
success with the writing and please say hi to Lorna. Keep in contact.
Hi Scott, great to hear from you again. I remember the Pool team well - we did pretty well too, didn't we!!!
Graham from Jester Turtle / Wozani has got loads of albums lying about but unfortunatly he's back in Johannesburg now. Send me an email Scott (check
the contact page) and I'll send you back Graham's email address. (Don't really like giving out other people's emails in here) I'm sure he can sort
something out for you.
Everyone Welcome!
Please feel welcome to say hi in the guestbook. It's not just for songwriters or musicians... but for anyone who loves music.
Hi Jon, Dave and Phil and thanks for visiting. Yes... Jester Turtle and Wozani were fun days, and we really need another website just dedicated to
those times. Any offers!!!
Of course, tonights the big Candlelighters night. If you're close enough... come and enjoy the craic!
Great to meet you both Greg and Pete, and thanks for popping in Tim (Wor Lad) and Georg.
Anyone who remembers or gigged in Rhodesia in the 60s / 70s and 80s will love Pete's site so please give it a visit! I've also sent Pete more info on
Wizard and Flagship's time there, and will be sending more soon as the memory cells take hold!
Thank you for the encouraging words Carol, Darren, Trig and Andy. Don't worry Carol, I'll be keeping at it - like the song says 'nothin' can stop me
now!' In regard to the few people having trouble getting on the guestbook. I've contacted 'hostbaby' (the webservers) about this and it might be down
to a spam filter which they've introduced to their system. It's all quite complicated, and I don't pretend to understand it all. This forum topic
from their website might help, but the bottom line seems to be - check out your computer for any nasty spam mail or viruses.

and will let you know when everythings working.
Hi Sharon, Steph, Laurence,
David and Shel. Thanks for all the encouraging words!
Sharon - glad the gig went well with the original material. I bet that really gave you a thrill doing your own stuff for a change. Good luck with the
CD and please let us know when it's ready and how to hear it.(I daren't tell any of the girl singers what you've said about them Sharon - they'll
want more money!)
Laurence - thanks for visiting. I've been listening to your stuff, and you're obviously very much into country. Great stuff! I wondered if you knew
some good friends of mine on the circuit: Clearcut (Don and Daz - the duo) and Wrangler (Tim on the kit and vocals.) Both are dashing up and down the
country all the time, doing all the country clubs!
Shel - yes please keep plugging Real Radio... would be great if they gave 'Find Peace' or 'Turn Around' a spin.

Sorry Gareth, but I don't have any CD's of JT / Wozani lying around... but I know a man who does - Graham who is now in Johannesburg. If you'd like to email me on here (see the contacts page) to give me your email address, then I'll pass on Graham's contact details to you. Hopefully he can sort something out for you.

Hi Rob,
I am another old fan from the blue moon. I s'pose you must be fed up with people asking for old Jester tracks but gotta do it. Have you got any old recordings from JT times? Got my old cassette and a CD nicked when my car was stolen. Found the video, in a shoebox the other day and put it on for the kids. They took the mickey and then watched it with me from start to finish.
Good luck
Gareth

Hi Rob,
Congratulations on your website and your personal achievment as a song and musical writer. Having choreographed commercial shows myself, I know how it feels to see one's creation come to life on stage. Keep at it, I'm sure that your big time is still to come. Further, my mother (Laura Jones) believes you are great and if she says so, then it will be.
