Rob Russell Davies: Listen

My Kind-a Truth

(Rob Russell Davies)
Lee Clifford with Beth Wheatley and Kathy Christie
From the musical FALSE PROPHET

We had loads of fun trying to record this song in half a day. All credit to the girls for getting their tongues around the harmonies and lyrics.

The Story: A journalist remembers her seedy tabloid days and her first interview with cult leader David - an interview which would convince her to join the cult in her search for truth.

MY KIND-A TRUTH
Rob Russell Davies© 2001

3 OFFICE GIRLS
(Girl 1)
Get down to work I'm typing all mornin'
(+ Girl 2)
Tellin' the truth the radio's callin'
(+ Girl 3)
Surfin' the net and spreading the good word
(All 3)
Shouting the news and making ourselves heard

Get down to work I'm typing all mornin'
Tellin' the truth the radio's callin'
Surfin' the net and spreading the good word
Shouting the news and making ourselves heard

(JOANNE joins in the 2nd time with...)
JOANNE
Let's get down to work
We're tellin' the truth
Let's spread the good word
We're shouting the news

JOANNE
With deadline's pressing the news won't wait
We were hitting the streets at eight
And with a headline lacking a bit of spice
We'd be filling the gaps with lies

Was it true? (was it true?)
Did we care? (did we care?)
It's what we'd like to believe
When you chase a career
When you close your eyes and believe your lies
To push ahead... (and push ahead...)

CHORUS:
But then you spun me a tale my kinda truth
(My kind, my kind-a, my kind, my kind-a truth...)
A prophet leading the way, we're on the move
(My kind, my kind-a, my kind, my kind-a truth)

(Instrumental Bridge)
Dig some, dig some, dig some dig some dirt...

JOANNA
We'll dig some dirt with the interview (dig some dirt)
I'd be sweeping the floor with you
But when I heard your words and looked in those eyes (in those eyes...)
It was then that I realised...

It was true (it was true...)
That I cared (that I cared)
It's what I'd always believed
Then I wished for the dream
Then I closed my eyes and prayed for the lies...
To end... (the lies to end)

CHORUS
'Cause then you spun me a tale my kinda truth
(My kind, my kind-a, my kind, my kind-a truth...)
A prophet leading the way, we're on the move
My kind, my kind-a, my kind, my kind-a truth
And now I'm working for you, you show the way
(Working, working, I'm working, working for you...)
So guide me, don't let me miss a word you say

(My kind, my kind-a, my kind, my kind-a truth)

JOANNA
But sometimes I'm still confused (so confused...)
Sometimes I feel I'm being used (I'm being used...)
It's not that I'm doubting you (doubting you)
Well it can only be... (you)
It can only be...
You have more to tell me...

(Girl 1)
Get down to work I'm typing all mornin'
(+ Girl 2)
Tellin' the truth the radio's callin'
(+ Girl 3)
Surfin' the net and spreading the good word
(All 3)
Shouting the news and making ourselves heard

Get down to work I'm typing all mornin'
Tellin' the truth the radio's callin'
Surfin' the net and spreading the good word
Shouting the news and making ourselves heard

(JOANNA joins in the second time with...)
My Kind-a truth
My kind-a truth

(The 3 OFFICE GIRLS continue singing the verse: Get down to work... They do this twice through)
(JOANNA sings...)
My kind, my kind-a, my kind my kind-a truth...
Oh yes you're my kind, my kind-a, my kind, my kind-a truth...
You know you're my kind, my kind-a, my kind, my kind-a truth...
Yes you are, You know you're
My kind, my kind-a, my kind, my kind-a truth

You know you're...

JOANNA and the 3 GIRLS
My kind!
My kind!
My kind-a truth.
