Invisible Ink

Invisible ink on your letter
Words falling through the lines
It's not what you say, it's what's missing
The message is here in disguise
Buried away in the subtext
Is all that you wanted to say
But everything reads like a manual
The feeling has faded away
Like invisible ink

Invisible ink on the pages
And I wanna iron out the truth
Something's crept out of the shadows
Somebody else, someone new
Did you edit a kiss in the morning?
Or censor a night on the beach?
'Cause something is wrong with this letter
The writer has moved out of reach
Like invisible ink (x2)

And one name keeps occurring
You say a friend, nothing more
But I know what I'm seeing
And the writing's on the wall
All the rides at the fairground
All the nights at the bar
And I'm counting the times
You've thrown her name at my heart

Invisible ink on a letter
I'm sending to you in the post
Packed full of news, talk and gossip
Of people and things we both know
Don't look for my tears in the ink stains
Or words that might say good-bye
But you'll know that something is missing
When you search between the lines...
For invisible ink

Invisible ink (repeated)
